The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) announced that Alliance Oncology and Revenue Cycle have been elected, and Elekta re-elected, to serve three-year terms on ASTRO’s Corporate Advisory Council. Accuray was elected to serve a one-year term. These companies were elected by ASTRO’s corporate membership and were approved by the ASTRO Board of Directors.
“It is very important for ASTRO to maintain good working relationships with our industry partners as these companies continue to provide innovate tools that help our physician members provide care to our patients,” said Deborah Kuban, M.D., FASTRO, Chair of ASTRO’s Corporate Relations Committee and a radiation oncologist at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. “We believe that fostering this forum helps our Society successfully connect the patient, doctor and technology in delivering cancer treatment.”
The Corporate Advisory Council is a representative body of ASTRO’s corporate membership, consisting of nearly 100 equipment, device and pharmaceutical companies who are involved in radiation therapy. These elected council seats are balanced among small-, medium- and large-sized corporations and represent a cross section of the radiation oncology industry. The goal of the council is to focus on issues of mutual concern to all corporate members and to increase awareness of radiation therapy and advance the science and practice of radiation therapy in the treatment of cancer.

The October 31st fundraiser in Chicago was held after Elekta’s 2009 Radiation Oncology Users Meeting (ROUM) and pulled in another $20,000 in matching funds from Elekta, for a grand total of $45,972
“It was a phenomenal gesture for Elekta to host the Charity Bash and further the cause of All Are Our Heroes ,” said David Greer, the Georgia media and marketing entrepreneur who wrote the song All Are Our Heroes and founded the Heroes project. “This project had humble beginnings and we certainly dreamed of it reaching around the world. Elekta has played a big part in that by bringing its message of support to its audience.”
Many of the 1,647 who attended the event also participated in Elekta’s 18th ROUM, the premier meeting for radiation oncologists, nurses, physicists and therapists in town for the 51st American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting.
