An estimated 72,000 healthcare professionals gathered at the Dubai World Trade Centre Jan. 23-26 for the 2012 Arab Health Congress and Exhibition. The meeting also provided the framework for the 2nd Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Cancer Therapy Conference.
During the exhibition, Elekta demonstrated advanced solutions ranging from conventional radiation therapy with Elekta Compact™* to stereotactic neurosurgery with Leksell Gamma Knife® Perfexion™, products that provide clinicians with the tools to save and improve the lives of individuals with cancer. In addition, for the first time at Arab Health, Elekta presented advanced brachytherapy solutions.
The theme of the Elekta exhibit was “Experience the Elekta Difference,” which emphasizes the company’s commitment to increasing the user’s clinical confidence by simplifying the variables in treatment planning, patient setup, verification and delivery.

In 2012, Elekta will increase its presence in the region, after having already expanded its Dubai office to better serve customers and partners.

- Elekta welcomed Nucletron to the family. The acquisition agreement between Elekta and brachytherapy world leader, Nucletron, broadens Elekta’s product offering for patients with cervical, prostate, breast and rectal cancers.
- For the first year, the Medical Oncology Summit was held in conjunction with the Elekta Oncology Users Meeting.
- Following the Users Meeting, the Third Annual Charity Bash was held, raising USD 53,000 for the Sandy B. Muller Breast Cancer Foundation.
- Elekta presented how innovation and product development, as well as increased presence in fast growing emerging markets are the cornerstones of our growth strategy at the Investors Meeting during ASTRO.

Tuesday, October 4 at 10:30 a.m. ET, during the American Society for Radiation Oncology’s (ASTRO) 53rd Annual Meeting, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Elekta will present the Sandy B. Muller Breast Cancer Foundation with a check. The company’s activities at ASTRO raised a total of $50,000 for the Miami-based organization. In addition to contributing the proceeds from ticket sales for the Elekta Charity Bash on October 1, Elekta made a donation for each ASTRO attendee who had their badge swiped at the Elekta exhibit. During the Annual Meeting, Elekta focused on how the company supports individuals with breast cancer through the breast cancer continuum, from diagnosis to treatment and follow-up.

- The 20th Annual Elekta Oncology Users Meeting (EOUM) convenes October 1 at the Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach hotel. At the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) 53rd Annual Meeting, October 2-6 in Miami Beach, Fla., Elekta will highlight its broad spectrum of solutions designed to simplify the complex processes involved in radiation therapy, inspiring confidence in healthcare professionals who use Elekta technology.

Clarity with Autoscan uses non-ionizing ultrasound technology to continuously track prostate anatomy during simulation and treatment without requiring additional non-therapeutic radiation dose. Unlike other technologies, Clarity does not require invasive implants and images are acquired by placing a probe against the patient’s perineum, minimizing any interference or collision risks with the treatment machine. Clarity enables clear visualization of target and critical structure location at any time during treatment delivery and facilitates the highest precision treatments. As an automated, user-independent imaging technique, Clarity with Autoscan provides real-time soft tissue tracking without negative impact on treatment times or clinical workflow.
Identify is designed to ensure patient safety in the clinic and increase staff confidence in the reliability of patient identification and accessories. Identify employs advanced radiofrequency identification technology to ensure the right patient is being treated at the right location and with the correct set up and equipment. Identify is integrated with Elekta’s MOSAIQ® Oncology Information System, enabling patient queuing, automatic opening of patient charts and treatment tracking at the EMR, optimizing workflow and safety.
