Nancy O’Donnell (left) is Elekta's 2012 Registrar of the Year

During the National Cancer Registrars Association’s (NCRA) 38th Annual Education Conference in Washington D.C , Elekta paid tribute to the 2012 Registrar of the Year, which honors registrars who make valuable contributions to the success of their registry, and extend those contributions to benefit the broader medical facility and community. Nancy O’Donnell, Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) for Atlantic Health System in Morristown, New Jersey was recognized as Registrar of the Year.

Recognized for nine years of service, O’Donnell was nominated by her colleagues for her professionalism, integrity, and dedication, as well as the vital role she plays in running the registry. Founding member and past president of the Oncology Registrars Association of New Jersey (ORANJ), Nancy is also an active member of NCRA, as well as the Board of Managers for the Morris County American Cancer Society.

“Nancy deserves the outstanding registrar award for enabling Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center and Morristown Medical Center to have top-notch cancer registry departments,” says Samuel Chilaka, MA, CTR, Cancer Registrar.

An honorable mention also was awarded to Gloria D. Hart, CTR, a registrar with more than nine years experience at Chicago-based John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

“What better honor than recognition from one’s colleagues?” says Rugg. “We at Elekta would like to congratulate Nancy and Gloria for their contribution to their registry programs.”

On October 3rd, during the ASTRO Annual Meeting in Miami Beach, Elekta hosted our third Asia Pacific Appreciation Night. A record number of attendees, over 350 customers from more than 14 countries in the Asia Pacific region, attended.

Elekta CEO Tomas Puusepp and Gilbert Wai, who recently was appointed Executive Vice President of Elekta’s Asia Pacific region, kicked off the evening with a toast. Our new Nucletron customers and colleagues in the region also joined the festivities.

Another highlight of the evening was a performance from “Elekt-a RT” a band consisting of Elekta employees and our customers, including Roberto Pellegrini (saxophone, flute, guitar), Emil Hensler (trumpet, horns), Dr. Frank Lohr (bass), Dr. Felix Heinemann (guitar), Lasse Eklof (percussionist), Anke Ams (vocals), Claudio Fusari (vocals) and David Murphy (vocals).

“Elekta is deeply committed to participating in the expansion of new care capacity in all product ranges within the Asia Pacific region and welcomed a night of celebration with our friends and customers,” Wai says.

In 2011, Elekta strengthened its presence in the important South Korean market through a newly established local office. This is an addition to Elekta’s existing offices in the region located in Singapore, India, Australia, Japan as well as Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing in China.

Speakers shared their experiences and best practice methods in using Elekta radiation oncology products and software solutions

Elekta, in collaboration with CMS Alphatech and customer Genesis Care, hosted the second Australasian Users Meeting September 9-11 at the beautiful Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney, Australia. Featuring a relaxed and interesting program, the event included a combination of educational and product-specific presentations from local and international speakers, including, Dr. Marc Posner, principal prostate radiation oncologist at The Center for Advanced Radiation Medicine at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital just North of Chicago, Illinois and the Deputy Head of Physics at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, Dr. Jason Cashmore, BSc, MSc, DipIPEM, Cphys.

“We had high attendance and outstanding customer feedback about the user meeting,” says Melissa Carson, Australasian Sales Manager. “Even though the meeting only is in its second year, I sensed a mutual pride among Elekta professionals and users of our solutions in what the Elekta user community stands for and what it continues to accomplish clinically. We are already looking forward to the third meeting and thank Genesis Care and CMS Alphatech for their contributions.”

Save the Date announcements for next year’s event in Perth, Western Australia, hosted by Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital are expected in the very near future.
